Electrician Job Description: Testing and Maintenance

If you are an electrician, you would know that in every electrician job description, you would need to know how to test and maintain every installations that you had placed inside of the building. Testing of Each Installation

Once you, the electrician, has completed the full wirings, every circuit inside of the building or area must be tested. Electricians uses a special device called the ohmmeters to test out the ohms of each circuits to ensure that everything is compatible with each other. Electricians would also use other tools like oscilloscopes or voltmeters to check that all of the components are safe for usage. These equipments are often listed in an electrician job description and electricians are needed to be proficient in all of these equipments.




A proficient electrician would also need to do the general wirings for the lightings and appliances and if required, install special wires like optics cables for high speed internet and for telecommunication purposes for both companies and residential buildings. Another area that is listed inside any electrician job description is the fact that each one of them must be trained to handle telecommunication systems, large scale lights like street lights, fire alarms, security systems and computer wiring inside buildings and other related equipment. Electricians would also need to understand how to install controls controlled with electricity and connect the motors using wirings to a certain power source like a generator.

Maintenance

For a normal electrician, maintenance work in any electrician job description can differ, depending on the area that he is employed in. Residential electricians would need to rewire houses and replace any outdated fuse box inside of each house which include installing a new circuit breaker and installing more fuses to take care of more electrical needs that the house may require.

Other electricians that are working in industrial companies, large or small, would need to repair transformers, controls, generators and automated robots existing inside of the factories or workplace. In commercial buildings like an office, electricians would be required to repair many different types of electronic equipments, such as the air conditioner or the lightings.


A maintenance electrician would spent his time largely on preventive maintenance. He would have to check equipment from time to time and locate the problems and repair them before they break down. Electricians are also required to advise the staff whenever the equipment they are using become hazardous to use and seek approval to install newer and better equipment for the company.


If there is a breakdown, electricians must be able to repair the broken down equipment quickly to minimize any loss in production to the company's profits. There are also maintenance calls to countryside areas to change a broken fuse or reconnect loose wires. Such cases would take up more than an hour just in driving to the location and troubleshooting must be done to rectify the problems and prevent them from ever happening again.
